Grab the Camera! 6 Stunning Naturescapes to Experience Through a Lens

One of the best things about living in the Yukon is the incredible natural scenery. We’re surrounded by gorgeous lakes, breathtaking mountains, incredible glaciers, phenomenal forests, and dazzling snowscapes. So why not get outside and capture the Yukon’s natural beauty for yourself?

Grab the camera! Here are six stunning naturescapes to experience through a lens.

1. Kluane National Park and Reserve

Visiting Kluane National Park and Reserve is always worth the trip. Whether you choose to hike, ski, canoe, or take a flightseeing tour, you’re sure to capture plenty of stunning naturescapes. And if you visit the interior of the park, you’ll have the opportunity to photograph Mount Logan, Canada’s highest peak. Plus, wildlife abound in Kluane National Park and Reserve, so you just might get to see grizzly bears, eagles, or Dall’s sheep through your lens!

2. Carcross Desert

Despite its name, the Carcross Desert doesn’t actually fit the requirements to be considered a true desert. It does, however, have unique features that aren’t typically found in Canada. It’s worth a visit to see the sand dunes that contrast with the surrounding mountains and lake. Plus, you’ll have the chance to photograph species of plants like Baikal Sage and Yukon Lupine that you aren’t likely to see anywhere else.

3. Tagish Lake

The Windy Arm of Tagish Lake provides a stunning naturescape that you can enjoy without needing to trek on foot (unless you want to!). Just take the Klondike Highway to the Bove Island overlook. You’ll be able to pull off the highway and photograph the incredible scenery of Tagish Lake to your heart’s content.

4. Emerald Lake

The Emerald Lake is another naturescape with easy road access, so it’s perfect if you have mobility challenges. You’ll be able to capture the beauty of the green lake from an overlook along the Klondike Highway. Visit at midday for the best lighting.

5. Miles Canyon

Miles Canyon offers stunning naturescapes right here in Whitehorse. Walk the Millenium trail or take Chadburn Lake Road for year-round vehicle access. Prefer something more organized? Try an interpretive hike this summer with the Yukon Conservation Society! You’ll learn all about the canyon while capturing the amazing views through your lens.

6. Yukon River Trail

For a leisurely experience close to home, try the Yukon River Trail. You’ll experience stunning views of the river and mountains, along with the beautiful natural vegetation. And it’s a perfect place to go birdwatching, too. Be aware, though, that some of the trail is a bit steep. However, there are also paved areas on the east side of the trail that offer an easier experience.

The Yukon is one of the best areas for exploring natural beauty, and we are fortunate to be surrounded by incredible natural scenery here in Whitehorse. So grab the camera, and go explore these six stunning naturescapes that are perfect to experience through a lens!
