Celebrate Mother's Day in the Yukon with These 5 Activities
Mother’s Day falls on May 14 this year, but don’t worry if you haven’t already settled your plans. The Yukon offers plenty to do for Mother’s Day.
Need some ideas? No problem! Celebrate Mother’s Day in the Yukon with these five activities.
1. Enjoy a Meal
One of the most popular choices of Mother’s Day activities is simply going out for a meal. And with all the incredible restaurants here in the Yukon, it’s easy to see why!
So whether you want to explore international foods with a Global Brunch, have an English Breakfast, enjoy a good steak, or anything in between, chances are good you can find it in the Yukon. But remember to make your reservations early. Many restaurants fill up on Mother’s Day!
2. Run for Mom
The 25th annual Run for Mom will be held on May 14, 2023 at the SS Klondike National Historic Park. Registration begins at 12:00 pm, and the event itself begins at 1:00 pm. Each year, the Run for Mom raises money to support breast health, and all proceeds stay right here in the Yukon.
You can participate in the event by walking, running, or biking the course, making a donation, or coming out to cheer on the runners. It promises to be a day of fun for a good cause, with plenty of prizes and treats available. Don’t forget to wear pink to show your support!
3. Create a Watercolor Masterpiece
Looking for a memorable Mother’s Day activity? Participate in a watercolours workshop at the Swan Haven Interpretive Centre! You’ll have loads of fun painting a beautiful landscape, and you’ll each have your own painting to remember the occasion. Alternatively, swap paintings with one another. They’ll make perfect Mother’s Day gifts!
The workshop is a free event, but you will need to reserve tickets. So sign up right away to ensure you have a space.
4. Visit Carcross Commons
Mother’s Day is also the opening day of Carcross Commons this year, so why not spend Mother’s Day enjoying all Carcross Commons has to offer? There are plenty of local artisans, a gourmet coffee shop, and a restaurant all in one place. Plus, there’s even a playground for your grandchildren to enjoy.
Visiting Carcross Commons this Mother’s Day is also a wonderful way to support First Nations artisans and learn about First Nations history.
5. Have a Sweet Treat
Prefer a cozy and relaxed Mother’s Day? Head to one of Whitehorse’s wonderful coffee houses or bakeries for a warm beverage and a sweet treat.
