7 Fun Autumn Crafts for Seniors
Autumn is officially here, and the weather is turning colder. So what can you do on those chilly autumn days? How about making some autumn crafts? Here are seven fun autumn craft ideas.
1. Charming Wooden Owl
This adorable wooden owl is perfect for greeting visitors to your home. Simply stain a wood slice and add a picture hanger to the back. Use craft glue to attach a branch to the wood. Then, glue on two forks and a spoon to make feet and a beak (pick some up second-hand if you don’t want to part with your own!). Finally, create eyes by gluing small jar lids inside of larger ones. Use bottle caps to make the pupils.
2. Chrysanthemum Boxes
These pretty little boxes are wonderful for giving as gifts or storing your own small trinkets. You’ll need glue, scissors, paper or wooden boxes, and paper streamers the color you’d like your flowers to be, along with green for the stems. Cut about ⅔ of a yard from a streamer, fold it in half lengthwise twice, then fold it in half widthwise. Cut fringe into the open (non-folded) side. Place a strip of glue at the base, and roll it up to make a flower. Once it’s dry, fluff the fringe and glue your flower to the box. Cut a leaf from the green streamer and glue it to the base of your flower.
3. Autumn Bookmark
If you love a good book, why not create your own autumn-themed bookmark? Just trace your favorite shape onto a sheet of felt, cut it out, and glue it to a large craft stick. Pumpkins, apples, acorns, and leaves are all excellent choices.
4. Autumn Garland
Use leaf patterns or trace leaves onto autumn-colored fabric. Cut them out, punch a hole through the stems, and string them onto twine. Then, hang your new garland over your doorway or mantle for a lovely autumn decoration.
5. Acorn Displays
What can you do with all those acorns that are lying around? Turn them into art! Paint acorns a variety of colors (leaving the tops natural), and use them to decorate your home. Place them in a vase, spread a few over the mantle, or make an artful pile as your centerpiece. Alternatively, cover acorns in glitter glue and craft glue. Then, use a hot glue gun to attach them to a piece of cardstock. Frame your creation for instant acorn art.
6. Spooky Candy Jar
Get ready for Halloween with a spooky candy jar. Paint the outside of a terracotta flower pot and saucer the color of your choice. Paint a wooden knob to match. When it is dry, place the flower pot upside down and attach a glass jar to it using e6000 glue. Weigh it down with a book while it dries for at least eight hours. Use a hot glue gun to attach the knob to the bottom of the saucer to make a lid. Fill your new jar with candy and decorate it with ribbons, stickers, and anything else you’d like.
7. Pressed Foliage Pumpkin
Create a gorgeous autumn decoration by pressing your favorite leaves and flowers between waxed paper and close them inside of a book. When they are fully pressed, use modge podge to attach them to a pumpkin. After it dries, layer more modge podge on top to seal it. Use a faux pumpkin if you’d like your craft to last past this season.
