7 Rainy Day Activities You Can Enjoy at Any Age

Rainy days often seem gloomy, but with a little creativity, they become cozy and fun. Plus, since many outdoor activities are canceled, you may find that rainy days present an excellent opportunity to spend time with family and friends who are otherwise always on the go.

Need some ideas? Here are seven rainy day activities you can enjoy at any age.

1. Read

If you want to spend your rainy day unwinding, there are few better ways than enjoying a good book. So, settle into your comfiest chair, and get lost in your favorite novel. Try having a cup of hot chocolate if the weather is chilly, or enjoy some wine and cheese while you read. Perfection.

2. Watch a Movie

Watching a movie is another great way to relax, and you can do it on your own or with others. Invite family or friends over for a watch party, or take it to the next level and host a movie marathon. Don’t forget the popcorn and snacks!

3. Play Games

Rainy days are a great time to enjoy a game. Play board games with your grandchildren, invite friends over for poker, or have a laugh with silly games like Twister or charades. Games are a wonderful way to pass the time on rainy days, and they keep your mind sharp, too!

4. Visit a Museum

If it’s too rainy to enjoy the outdoors, but you still want to do something away from home, try visiting a museum. Yukon has many! Just choose an interest, and enjoy art, history, science, and more, all while staying dry. You’re sure to appreciate the exhibits, get some exercise as you walk around, and learn interesting facts, too!

5. Cook

Take advantage of a rainy day to try a new recipe, bake your favorite cookies, or invite friends and family over for a meal. You could even host a pizza-making party or ice cream social. Cooking is always a fun way to bring people together for an enjoyable time, and rainy days are no exception.

6. Craft

Why not spend your next rainy day crafting? Involve your grandchildren, or do your favorite crafts on your own. Crafts are enjoyable for their own sake, but when you’re done, you’ll also have a finished project you can use to decorate your home, give as a gift, or sell as a hobby. And it’s never too late to try something new. There are tons of craft ideas online, or you can sign up for a class to learn a new skill.

7. Dance

Rainy days don’t have to be calm and quiet if you don’t want them to be! Put on your favorite music and dance in your living room, sign up for classes (either virtual or in-person), or see if any local senior centers are hosting a dance. Moving along to your favorite music is sure to chase away the rainy-day blues.

Next time there’s rain in the forecast, give one of these activities a try. Rainy days just might become your favorite days of all! And remember, here at Normandy Living, we provide both on-site and off-site programming of activities and excursions, so you’re sure to find something enjoyable to do, regardless of the weather!
